Scientific machine learning at The University of Scranton

Dr. Joseph Klobusicky - Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of Scranton

In this presentation, we'll give an overview of some of the ways that the University of Scranton has contributed to engaging the future scientific workforce with machine learning. Certainly, this is largely achieved through designing curriculum which builds the foundations necessary for understanding data and building machine learning algorithms. For outreach, we have also launched Data Science Day, a day-long event for high school students in the greater NEPA area. This event includes a tutorial on scientific programming, a keynote speaker from The National Institute of Standards and Technology, and a data science contest. Finally, we'll show recent progress on undergraduate research problems which involve a blend of mathematics, machine learning, materials science, and robotics.
